About

The Basketball Doctor - Coach John ScottHello, it’s Coach John Scott here. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and to tell you a little bit about the website here at BasketballDoctor.net.

The question you are probably asking yourself is: “Who exactly is Coach John Scott and why is he called “The Basketball Doctor?”

Well, I’m actually a pretty normal guy. I played basketball in High School, then went on to play in College and later I became a Professional Basketball Athlete.

Over the years I have gone on to coach at all levels of basketball — including high school, college and even professional basketball.

Starting out as a youth league coach, I won the Utah Jr. Jazz State Championship, and while coaching overseas I won a Women’s Country Title Championship in Australia.

I’ve also dedicated my life to helping hundreds of young athletes just like you play at the collegiate level. Some of my former students include Dr. Tom Amberry (who broke the Guinness Book of World Records for Free Throws (2,750 in a row)), NCAA National Champion 3 Point Shooter Kari Gallup, and 3 different players who have lead their State in Three Point Shooting.

Over the years I have produced more books and instructional videos on basketball than any other coach in the history of the game (over 50). I have conducted basketball clinics worldwide on 5 continents and all of this has led me to become known world wide as “The BASKETBALL DOCTOR©”.

As The Basketball Doctor, I’ve authored four books on the game of basketball, including the most recent, The Basketball Book, a comprehensive college textbook that has earned the endorsements of the Basketball Hall of Fame, along with legendary Boston Celtics Coach, Red Auerbach.

In addition, I served as the National Basketball Clinic Director for CONVERSE from 1992-2002. After that, I worked as a basketball clinician with Baden Sports from 2002-2005.  And over the years I’ve overseen and directed numerous basketball camps for Rawlings, Nike, Kraft General Foods, the 1992 Olympic Dream Team, Spalding, and others. In fact, I’ve conducted basketball clinics for hundreds of High Schools and Colleges throughout the United States.

Today my main role is that of the owner and founder of www.ATHLETICQUEST.net, the top-ranked college sports recruiting company worldwide, which is operated exclusively by College Coaches to help Student Athletes like you obtain college athletic opportunities.

Plus, I’ve set up this website at BasketballDoctor.net to help people like you learn the skills necessary to compete at a higher level and go on to play college or even professional basketball.

And in case you’re wondering about my personal life, I’m happily married, have 4 wonderful children, a Chocolate multi-colored Labrador named “Rodman”, and I currently reside in South Jordan, Utah – a suburb of Salt Lake City.

With my long history of basketball experience, you would think that I always knew I wanted to do with my life. But the truth is, it wasn’t until 1990 that I finally realized just how passionate I was about helping athletes and coaches reach their full potential in the field of sports and athletics… and that’s when I created my first company, SportAmerica.

SportAmerica’s goal from the very beginning has been to educate and motivate athletes and coaches to their highest potential. The company’s philosophy is to teach with the most up-to-date methods as well as the “old school” philosophy of sound fundamental training.

In the past, learning how to shoot, score, defend, and play better basketball was pretty straightforward… and sometimes a little boring. Coaches would show their players how to run through drills and the players would follow suit.

But I knew a long time ago that there had to be a better way to elevate players abilities to never before seen heights.

Following some of the most current trends of the time, I knew that VIDEO was where I needed to concentrate my energies, as I realized that video was one of the fastest, easiest, and most efficient ways for a player to pick up new skills and improve his or her current abilities.

That’s when I started creating the SportAmerica line of instruction videos, audio tapes, and books (seen here in our current product catalog). I spent more than $100,000 dollars and years of my time developing this line of professional information products. But the effort was well worth it! Because today, SportAmerica, in conjunction with The Basketball Doctor, have gone on to help thousands of athletes just like you achieve incredible success.
